Desert Heart Cheese Roll Recipe

The quintessential famous South Island treat, that works fabulously with a glass of the Desert Heart Chardonnay.


  • 400 grams grated tasty cheese (or 1 packet of grated tasty cheese)
  • 1 tin carnation evaporated milk
  • 1 pkt maggi onion soup mix
  • 1 finely chopped onion
  • 2 tsp mustard powder


Mix all together, in a microwave proof bowl. Microwave for 3 minutes, stir the mix well, microwave for a further 3 minutes.
Allow to cool.
Spread on white bread sandwich bread. Folding the slice in three.
To serve, toast the cheese rolls in either a George Forman type grill or in the oven.
While still hot spread or brush with butter and sprinkle with sea salt.
